career counselling...

i had the opportunity to be the career counselor of 7 individuals. it is interesting how easy it is for us to guide and coach others, while we ourselves falter so often. but then the role demands it...to counsel. just sharing the questions which i used to ask my counselees in my first meeting with them. advise based on their responses followed later.

1. What do you understand by a Counselor/Counselee relationship?
2. What are your personal and professional areas of satisfaction/what have been your achievements?
3. What are your areas of dissatisfaction?
4. What are your skills?
5. What are your strengths?
6. What are your limitations?
7. In which areas would you like improve?
8. What were the tasks and situations you had the most difficulty handling?
9. In which instances did your colleagues react negatively towards you?
10. Where there any reasons you attribute from your end that hindered your progress and promotion in the past?
11. What made you apply for a job here?
12. What are your expectations from me?

This may not be befitting to mention here, but my ex-boss at infocom, Manmeet Narula, once read this sentence from her note book: 'when i knew all the answers, life changed its questions!' So TRUE.

counseling my counselees made me realized they and i shared the same kind of ups and downs in career. hearing them was like going back to the past. listening about their 'one impossible dream' [not listed as questions here and not shared by everyone] was amusing interesting.

thanks pnm, viju, raj, mekad, deb, zes and solo for your trust in me!

sorry deb and zes, i did not spend much time with you guys!
